Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City - Phnom Penh
A tour guide will greet you at the Phnom Penh International Airport and transfer you to your hotel. In a traditional cyclo, you will ride to the National Museum, also called Musee des Beaux-Arts. Designed in Khemer style, the National Museum was created by a French archaeologist and painter named Georges Groslier in 1917. The museum contains a collection of Khmer art - notably sculptures - from throughout the ages.
Next we will visit the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. Located within the grounds of the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda received its name because of its silver tile flooring. The treasures inside include a solid gold encrusted Buddha weighing about 90 kilograms and a small 17th century emerald and baccarat crystal Buddha. We will also visit one of the main buildings in the complex, the throne room, which was built in Khmer style with tiered roof and 59-meter tower inside. The room was once used for coronations and other official occasions such as receptions for foreign ambassadors. Finally, we will visit the renowned Wat Phnom located on a man-made hill that stands 27-meters high. After a day of getting to know Phnom Penh, return to your hotel for the night.
Day 2: Siem Reap - Angkor
You will be transferred to Phnom Penh Airport for a short, domestic flight to Siem Reap. Your new local guide will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Once settled in, your day in Siem Reap starts with a sightseeing tour of the earliest Angkor Temples. You will visit Hariharalaya, the last Kingdom before Angkor in the 9th Century along with Preah Ko, Bakong and Lolei. You will also visit one of the jewels in the Angkor area, the Banteay Srei. The day will continue after lunch with a visit to the second Angkor capital of the 10th century including Prasat Kravan, East Mebon, Pre Rup, and Takeo. End your day with a beautiful sunset view from atop Phnom Bakheng, the original capital of Angkor.
Day 3: Angkor & Floating Village Chong Kneas
We will start the day with a visit to the nearby floating fishing village of Chong Kneas, where you can see a fully functional town complete with schools, restaurants, shops, and even hospitals all in the middle of a massive lake. Next our tour will take us back to the Angkor complex to continue our tour through the ancient city. Discover Angkor Thom- an area famous for its series of colossal human faces carved in stone, and Bayon, a beautifully decorated temple with pictures inscribed on the walls. Next, discover the 3rd Angkor capital as well as the Baphuon, Phimeanakas, and Northern and Southern Khleang. Before lunch, we will visit the Kingdom of Jayavarman VII with the famous Terrance of Elephants and Terrace of Leper King built at the end of the 12th century.
After lunch, we will visit one of the most famous temples of Angkor, Ta Prohm. With enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers that embrace themselves against the stone foundations, this architectural wonder is the perfect example of when man-made architecture and nature collide. Finally, our last visit will be the famous and amazing Angkor Wat. Its perfection in composition, balance, proportions, reliefs, and sculptures make it one of the finest monuments in the world. Admire the sunset on Angkor Wat before returning to the hotel
